About Piedmont Airlines (1948-1989)
Based out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Piedmont had its two major hubs in Baltimore and Raleigh. At its height, the airline had over 20,000 employees and flew to nearly 100 destinations. It was founded back in 1948 when Thomas Davis purchased Camel City Flying Service. Piedmont's first flight was from Wilmington, N.C., to Cincinnati, OH.
