Independence Air Apparel
Independence Air started life as Atlantic Coast Airlines. When their relationship with United Airlines fell apart, ACA rebranded itself as a low-cost carrier and changed its name to Independence Air. It operated out of the Washington Dulles and fought United for market share in the Washington DC area. United eventually won the battle and Independence went into bankruptcy.
In 2006, Northwest Airlines purchased the operating certificate of Independence to establish its own regional carrier, Compass Airlines.
