Back in 1930, Western Air Express and Transcontinental Air Transport, as well as Pittsburgh Aviation Industries, merged to form what became known as Transcontinental & Western Air. Otherwise, known as TWA.
They began one of the first true transcontinental airlines with the introduction of the “Lindbergh Line.” Until then, a coast-to-coast trip included both airplane and train. With the Lindbergh Line service, travelers could travel from Los Angeles to New York on scheduled airplane-only service.
