The Story of Northwest Airways Inc.
The first airline of what was to eventually become Northwest Airlines, Northwest Airways Inc began operations in Detroit, Michigan. Like most airlines, its first commercial activity started as a mail carrier proving service between Minneapolis and Chicago. Soon, they began flying mail across the northern plains to Seattle. In 1933, they changed their name to Northwest Airlines - the name that stuck until being acquired by Delta in 2010.
